Despite my lack of experience, I secured my first position as Office Coordinator — likely due to the passion and enthusiasm I had for the online publication. In that role, while effectively ensuring that the team had everything they needed to perform at their best, I was absorbing, learning and quietly fuelling my passion for storytelling. Soon, I grew enough courage to enquire about potentially moving into the content team, and after an initial setback, I was offered a position as one of two contracted affiliate writers — the first of their kind for BuzzFeed's Australian edition. Getting our shopping vertical off the ground Down Under as my very first task working as a writer was a little terrifying, but with incredible management and relentless ambition, our audience grew and so did our performance in market. My efforts were recognised, and ultimately after a little over a year in affiliate writing, I was brought on as a full-time Content Producer. My time as an office coordinator getting to know the business and teams from the inside out — as well as my time working in affiliate content — helped immensely with my new role. My new position opened up the opportunity for me to further develop skills I'd already obtained while growing and discovering new ones. I managed and outsourced freelancers across editorial and branded content, curated ideas and built creative slides for our sales team to present to market, crafted branded and editorial articles and pre-production materials, and even appeared in video and hosted a podcast series as BuzzFeed talent. This diverse experience allowed me to master storytelling across formats, understand client needs and stay ahead of digital trends. BuzzFeed Australia's transition to Val Morgan Digital opened another chapter, where I've levelled up my skills across POPSUGAR, LADbible, Fandom, The Latch and, of course, BuzzFeed and Tasty. Within six months at VMD, I was promoted to Branded Content Editor. In this role, I'm able to exercise all the skills I've developed and grown, managing branded campaigns as well as contributing editorially. It's safe to say I thoroughly enjoy my work — a position that is made up of a rewarding blend of creativity, collaboration and strategic thinking — allowing me to craft impactful content that resonates with diverse audiences and drives results.
