Claim your profileLongtime news reporter chronicling the American West. Am particularly interested in Western environmental issues, and the many ways the region's chronic droughts and wildfires are impacting both humans and the iconic landscape. Am also focused on how climate change is impacting the region in a somewhat alarming way, as manifested by the outbreak of megafires in California and other states. I travel far and wide to research my stories, including visits with Eskimos in the Alaskan Arctic and Navajos in the Arizona desert. I once donned a beekeeping suit to help "bust" a killer bee hive in Tucson, and have backpacked in the Montana Rockies tracking grizzly bears with conservationists. More recently, I have been on the ground covering the wildfires in California, and in the streets of Seattle and San Francisco covering the civil rights protests. My past coverage areas at the Wall Street Journal have ranged from the national real estate market to the tribulations of Apple Computer in the 90s and meteoric political careers of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sarah Palin.
