Founder at Family Services of America
Fayetteville, NC, USA
Shannon Battle is a licensed clinical mental health counselor, clinical supervisor, addictions specialist, trauma-informed behavioral health leader, and Founder and President of Family Services of America. With more than 25 years of experience serving children, families, couples, professionals, and vulnerable populations, she brings both clinical expertise and executive-level insight to today’s most urgent conversations about mental health, trauma, relationships, foster care, leadership, and community well-being. As the leader of a CARF-accredited behavioral health and child-placing organization, Shannon has built and managed programs encompassing outpatient therapy, school-based mental health services, therapeutic foster care, crisis support, and services for children and families experiencing complex challenges. Her perspective is shaped not only by direct clinical practice, but also by decades of navigating workforce demands, regulatory compliance, organizational growth, secondary trauma, leadership burnout, and the realities facing the behavioral health and child-welfare systems. Shannon is also an author, doctoral student in psychology, entrepreneur, military spouse, mother of five adult children, and advocate for trauma-informed leadership. She is particularly skilled at translating complex psychological and systemic issues into practical, relatable guidance for the public. Her expert commentary has appeared in The Wall Street Journal, U.S. News & World Report, Essence, Redbook, Talkspace, Your Teen Magazine, and Focus on the Family. She has also been featured by ABC11/WTVD, Triangle Business Journal, CityView NC, and the Greater Fayetteville Business Journal. Shannon is available to provide timely, thoughtful commentary on mental health and trauma; marriage and family relationships; parenting and adolescent behavior; foster care and child welfare; behavioral health leadership and workforce burnout; women’s resilience and reinvention; faith and mental wellness; military family experiences; entrepreneurship; and community-based solutions for vulnerable children and families.

This feature highlights my ability to identify gaps that affect mental health and create practical, community-based solutions to address them. Through the redevelopment of neglected properties, we expanded access to safe, stable housing for individuals recovering from addiction, experiencing homelessness, and working toward greater independence. The project demonstrates how housing can serve as an extension of behavioral health care providing the stability people need to engage in treatment, rebuild essential life skills, and achieve lasting recovery. It also reflects my broader expertise in connecting mental health services, housing, community development, and cross-sector partnerships to meet needs that traditional service systems may overlook.
