I own Colorado CareAssist, a family-owned home care agency on the Front Range (Boulder and Colorado Springs) since 2012 — about 77 clients and 50 caregivers. I'm an unusually candid source on a small business actually running on AI, and on where AI shouldn't go. I build and run the AI across my whole back office myself — not vendors, not vaporware: the client and employee portals, the recruiting system, scheduling and billing automation, and an AI-powered caregiver lead-gen product (Pipestaff). It saves real money and makes real money, and I keep every AI that touches client data inside signed HIPAA business-associate agreements — most operators can't say that. The part I can speak to that the hype crowd can't: I deliberately keep humans answering our phones 24/7, even though I've built the AI that could take those calls, because my clients want to talk to a person. Knowing that line — where automation earns its keep and where it quietly costs you trust — is the whole game in a human, regulated business. I can also explain how families actually pay for home care: we're TriWest-credentialed for VA benefits and bill long-term-care insurance in-house, so I know the VA Aid & Attendance path most families never hear about (never "free" — eligibility is the VA's call) and how LTC insurance really works at claim time. Reachable for same-day comment.
