Taiyler S. Mitchell is an award-winning reporter on the HuffPost breaking news team with deep expertise in politics, criminal justice, race, social issues and culture. Notably, she has highlighted the stories of families who lost their homes to the 2025 fires in LA County, explained how an Oklahoma execution showed the disproportionate use of capital punishment on Black men, detailed the significance of the Stop Cop City movement and discussed how a police brutality victim leaned on the use of restorative justice. She won the 2026 Writers Guild Award in the Digital News category for a piece she co-reported with HuffPost reporter Sebastian Murdock titled, "An Isolated Boarding School Promised To Help Troubled Girls. Former Students Say They Were Abused." She received two other nominations in the same category. Before working at HuffPost, Mitchell reported on the news desk at Business Insider. She interviewed sources inside the embattled countries of Afghanistan and Ukraine, discussed forgiveness and flaws in the criminal justice system with a man convicted of murder and explained the 2022 strike inside Alabama prisons. She also reported on sex work and the unhoused community in depth. Mitchell is an alumna of Dillard University and a member of the National Association of Black Journalists and the Online News Association. "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," NBCLX, SFGate, VoyageLA Magazine and more have spotlighted her work. In her spare time, she can be found wine-tasting, trying out new recipes, improving her Spanish or shopping. Though she’s a California native, Mitchell is never really done exploring all that Los Angeles has to offer.
