Claim your profileAdam Mahoney is a Black writer from Los Angeles. He now lives in the other, much more humid, LA and has reported from more than a dozen U.S. states and Palestine, Mexico, Uganda, and Vietnam for newspapers and magazines like the New York Times and the Guardian. He is the co-author of The Problem With Plastic (New Press, 2025) and was a 2025 Writer-in-Residence at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.Currently, he is the national climate and environment reporter at Capital B News, a nonprofit newsroom focused on the Black experience. Before joining Capital B, he was an environmental justice reporter at Grist and reported on police and prisons in Chicago. His work has been cited by the U.S. and Illinois Supreme Courts and the White House, altered the city of Chicago’s vaccine rollout plan, led to several cities using federal funds to shelter houseless people, and used by activists and organizers nationwide. Since 2022, he has garnered awards and recognition from the Columbia Journalism Review and Covering Climate Now, the SEAL Awards, the Anthem Awards, the Society of Professional Journalists, Nonprofit News Awards, and the Online News Association.
