Amir Said (he/him) is an award-winning journalist, photographer and media professional based in Calgary, Alberta, on Treaty 7 Territory. He holds a Bachelor's of Arts in English and Certificate in Nonprofit Sector Leadership & Innovation, both of which he earned concurrently from the University of Regina and Luther College, respectively. As a reporter/editor with CBC News, Amir publishes web articles and produces radio broadcasts in Calgary and surrounding area for local and national audiences. Before that, he was a multimedia reporter with Great West Media's Western Wheel newspaper, covering daily news in Okotoks and Foothills County as a writer and photojournalist, while also providing front-page photos and feature stories for the paper's Foothills Magazine quarterly insert. In addition to his work with the public broadcaster, Amir regularly contributes articles and photos to news outlets across Canada as a freelance journalist. His byline has appeared in Saskatchewan-based publications such as the Regina Leader Post and Briarpatch Magazine's Sask Dispatch, as well as beyond the Prairies with B.C. magazine Watershed Sentinel and Ottawa-based publications The Hill Times and New Canadian Media. Amir's work as a journalist has been recognized through multiple Canadian Community Newsmedia and Alberta Weekly Newspapers awards, as well as being named a finalist for the Alberta Magazine Publishers Association's Emerging Writer award. During his time as an undergraduate student journalist, Amir's coverage of multiculturalism at the University of Regina earned him the OMNI Scholarship in Ethnic & Third-Language Journalism, while his skillful storytelling led him to receive the Bell Media Award in Journalism.
