Claim your profileI’m a Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter, New York Times Best Selling author, recipient of the American Book Award, and a popular moderator and lecturer. I’m also a frequent on-air contributor to CBS. I'm a unique hybrid: part wordsmith; part analyst, part educator. With those talents, I've built a versatile, award-winning career at the New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, and USA Today. I've written for Essence Magazine, done voice over work for local businesses and organizations, and following co-authoring my first book, "Shifting: The Double Lives of Black Women in America" which won the 2004 American Book Award, I've become a highly sought-after co-writer for prominent personalities interested in committing their life stories to the page. Notably, I collaborated with famed ballerina Misty Copeland on her biography, "Life In Motion," and award-winning actor Courtney B. Vance on the mental health primer, "The Invisible Ache.'' Whether I'm covering the demise of retail icon Sears, appearing on CBS Mornings to explain which Super Bowl commercials were the most successful, lecturing on race and gender issues at the University of Iowa, or writing my latest book, the ability to communicate effectively and elegantly - to articulate a good story - is one of my greatest strengths.
