The Arc.fm podcast is seeking a current or former advertising executive, Creative Director, or agency creative to record a segment for an episode about the "Not Great Bob" scene in Mad Men. We want to talk not just about Mad Men's place in the advertising world, but also (and more importantly) telling a story in a compressed time frame (TVC, print spread, billboard, etc.). We'd love your opinion on memes, catchphrases, and how to write a catchy line. We're open to suggestions of how to expand the interview, but those would be our conversation starters. We record remotely on Riverside. Sessions run 30 to 60 minutes and are edited down like a documentary interview. Thank you for your consideration. Best,

The Arc.fm podcast is seeking an interior designer or design expert to record a segment about the cultural meaning of "the couch" in daily design life. We are producing an episode inspired by the role of the couch in HBO's "Insecure." One of our hosts has made a 45-slide PowerPoint about this couch, but before we get there, we need someone to set the stage. Specifically we are looking for an expert who can speak to: - What a couch says about a person or a relationship. - The word sofa vs. couch. - The broader role of furniture as a storytelling object. As the film criticism series "Every Frame a Painting" put it when analyzing chairs in cinema: "Chairs can tell you something about the world the film is set in, the characters who use them, or a specific situation." (https://kottke.org/15/06/in-praise-of-chairs) We believe the same is true of couches in real life and on screen. We record remotely on Riverside. Sessions run 30 to 60 minutes and are edited down like a documentary interview. We publish extensive show notes, and you may request specific keywords be used when linking back to you. Thank you for your consideration!

The Arc.fm podcast is seeking a PowerPoint expert, historian, or someone with a strong opinion about the tool to record a segment about its cultural history and impact. We are producing an episode in which one of our hosts has made a 45-slide PowerPoint to argue that the couch in HBO's "Insecure" is the show's most important visual symbol. Before we get to her presentation, we need someone to set the stage. Specifically we are looking for someone who can speak to: - The cultural history of PowerPoint and how it changed the way people communicate ideas. - When PowerPoint is the best tool for the job. - How to boil a complex idea down to a slide or set of slides. - Opinions on "the most famous PowerPoints/presentations ever" (e.g., Steve Jobs, Colin Powell on the Iraq War, or more fantastical ideas such as what the presentations might have been like trying to convince academics that the Earth was round.). We record remotely on Riverside. Sessions run 30 to 60 minutes and are edited down like a documentary interview. We publish extensive show notes, and you may request specific keywords be used when linking back to you. We are open to a broad interpretation of our needs if you have ideas beyond our own. Thank you for your consideration.

The Arc.fm podcast is seeking a TV critic, cultural commentator, entertainment journalist, or pop culture writer to record a segment for an episode about Mad Men's cultural legacy. We're specifically interested in someone who covered or watched Mad Men closely during its original run (2007-2015) and can speak to what it felt like in real time, not in retrospect. We're open to suggestions of how to expand the conversation, but our starting points would be: - Was "Not Great, Bob!" immediately iconic when it aired? - Did you write about that scene at the time, or did it (hopefully) slip by you (we're arguing it was a slow burn) ? - How big was Mad Men really? A prestige cult hit or was it arguably part of the US mono-culture? We're very open to other ways you'd like to take this! We record remotely on Riverside. Sessions run 30 to 60 minutes and are edited down like a documentary interview.
