He can be seen weekdays on Global News Morning and has contributed to ET Canada, The Morning Show and Global National.Born and raised in Toronto, Liem is the youngest of a family who fled a war-torn Vietnam in search of a new life in Canada. After spending his childhood in Scarborough, Liem graduated with distinction from the University of Toronto and went on to earn his Master of Journalism degree at Ryerson University.His sense of curiosity and passion for storytelling bring him to the front lines of breaking news. Liem has been a general assignment reporter for both local and national publications including The Toronto Star, The Globe and Mail, and The National Post. In 2011, he produced and hosted a series of investigative features for MTV News, focusing on hot-button sociopolitical issues aimed at Canadian youth.Since its launch in 2011, The Morning Show has featured Liem as a reporter and occasional co-host, offering his own take on the news of the day. He is also active behind the camera, producing and editing many of his own stories for the show.He regularly files for Global Toronto’s News Hour program with his signature edge and wit. Whether it’s fishing with Hazel McCallion on her last fishing voyage as mayor of Mississauga or probing the world of ‘Bronies’ and cuddle parties, Liem’s versatility brings a unique flair to local news.He has also become a regular on the Toronto International Film Festival circuit interviewing A-Listers like Hugh Jackman, Jake Gyllenhaal, Keira Knightley, Tina Fey, Jason Bateman, and Benedict Cumberbatch.Liem is an avid music fan, insatiable foodie, and all-around nerd. Prior to his career as a journalist, he moonlighted as the lead singer of a barbershop quartet called ‘The TemptAsians’ and has seen every episode of Buffy: The Vampire Slayer at least twice.
