Claim your profileFor the past 11 years I have lived in Bristol (after 23 years in Asia). I arrived knowing little about the city, but got involved in the Civic Society. After a long spell as an entrepreneur I am returning to journalism focusing initially on Mayor Marvin Rees' Urban Living SPD, a dramatic call to build high rises in the centre of this ancient and charming historic city. The motives for Rees' call to 'build high' are good - more housing - but the method tragically confuses densification (necessary) with high rises. This is likely to reduce a historic city to homogenous modernity. In the words of one councillor: "This could be the biggest disaster to hit the city in 20 years".My thoughts, rather extensive, are here: http://bristolagainsthighrises.com/ and here: http://bristolcommentary.uk/Short version here: https://www.bristol247.com/opinion/your-say/entire-appearance-bristol-under-threat/
