Claim your profileI am an AMS Certified Consulting Meteorologist and Certified Broadcast Meteorologist with over 25 years of leadership, weather forecasting, climate, and communications experience. As a team and project lead for content and strategy within CBS News & Paramount Global I help to create and execute weather- and climate coverage on various media platforms around the country (including broadcast, web, and OTT streaming). As Commissioner on Professional Affairs for the 12,000-member American Meteorological Society (AMS) I lead professional-development initiatives at the nation's premiere professional and scientific society for weather and climate, including those for diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice. In these roles, I helped lead initiatives to design and deploy weather graphics in 14 major cities across the U.S.; helped create and present monthly climate-change-coverage trainings for local journalists, nationwide; to automate and deliver geo-targeted weather forecasts and alerts to OTT/streaming customers; helped execute, and fund the long-term success of, the AMS Early Career Leadership Academy, focused on providing leadership skills to a diverse cohort of promising young leaders within the climate, water, and weather community. My communication skills were forged in the heat of local and national television lights, during decades of daily on-air appearances. The winner of 10 Emmy Awards, I am one of the most trusted sources of weather, climate, and earth science information in the state of Minnesota, as well as a weekly contributor for CBS News nationally, on CBS Sunday Morning. I have an intrinsic desire to share my passion for climate and weather with others who are interested; to that end I created the CBS Weather Watcher Network, which allows viewers to share their weather observations and media with CBS meteorologists nationwide. I am routinely invited to speak in person about climate and weather communication with a wide range of audiences, from marketing professionals to weather enthusiasts. I am a member of Phi Beta Kappa and received my Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Atmospheric Science from the University at Albany. There I studied under some of the world’s leading atmospheric scientists, completing original research to develop a forecasting method now used by the National Weather Service. I attend national and international conferences several times per year where I engage face-to-face with the world’s leading experts on climate change and weather.
