Claim your profileI'm a mid-career journalist working as Mississippi Today's justice reporter with a focus on equity. I primarily write about the criminal justice system, including police, courts, jails, prisons, the death penalty and post-incarceration. My coverage has included stories about how Mississippi prison officials can now choose how a condemned person dies, federal takeover of the capital city's jail over unconstitutional conditions and how parole rates have fallen even after efforts to expand parole eligibility. I have worked and interned in newsrooms around the country in a variety of reporting roles, including public safety, state government, health and general assignment. I am an inaugural member of two fellowships that have helped deepen my passion for journalism: the National Press Foundation's Widening the Pipeline fellowship for journalists of color and the Law and Justice Journalism Project fellowship.
