Claim your profileI'm a multi-award winning climate and energy journalist at leading online publication Carbon Brief, where I am the Deputy Editor and Senior Policy Editor. My journalism spans UK climate policy and politics through to global energy trends and international climate negotiations, which I've attended since the Paris Agreement was finalised at COP21 in 2015.My original, data-driven analysis articles are frequently picked up and reported on by publications in dozens of countries around the world. My analysis is often cited by politicians – including presidents and presidential candidates – as well as celebrities, campaigners and leading scientists.Examples of my work include analysis on the emissions impact of Trump's 2024 election win and on the way that colonial rule affects historical responsibility for climate change. Before joining Carbon Brief in 2014, I worked for six years at the ENDS Report, which is probably the UK's longest-running environmental business publication.I studied chemistry at the University of Oxford and went on to receive a PhD in biochemistry from the University of Bristol, where I learned, among other things, that writing about research was more fun than slaving over a lab bench.I also worked for the Harvard Sussex Program for informed public policy on chemical and biological weapons, during the era of the Iraq "dodgy dossier" and Colin Powell's infamous presentation to the UN Security Council. With the then-director Julian Perry-Robinson, I helped unmask the chemical formula of secret Russian nerve agent Novichok, which went on to be used in the Salisbury poisonings.
