Claim your profileAllen Hamil is the Sports Editor for the Le Mars Daily Sentinel. His role includes covering sporting events featuring the seven high schools in Plymouth County and building relationships with the area's coaches and student-athletes. Writing articles, photography and page design & layout are the some of the main everyday tasks at the newspaper. Projects including a quarterly magazine, "Prep Insider," and special sections have also been compiled. Hamil is a 2016 graduate of Hastings College, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcasting with a Sports Emphasis and minoring in Economics.Allen was a sports director on the HC Media Sports Team and for KFKX, the college’s radio station, serving in this role over the span of four years at Hastings College. As a member of the HC Media Sports Team, Allen worked to coordinate live sports productions of Hastings College athletic events as well as plan, coordinate and execute the live broadcasts for the NAIA DII Women's Basketball National Championship from Sioux City, Iowa, including the live streams of the semifinal and championship games on ESPN3. Along with his management experience, Allen has on-air experience commentating football, women's and men’s basketball, volleyball, soccer, baseball and softball on HC Media’s live video streams and radio broadcasts. Additionally, he has served as weatherman, sports anchor and chief interviewer for BNN, HC Media’s weekly news show. Allen has been recognized for his work at the national and state levels. He has received awards from the Iowa Newspaper Association, Society for Collegiate Journalists and the Nebraska Collegiate Media Association.Allen began his media career in high school by covering Hinton Blackhawk athletics through writing newspaper articles, taking football stats, being video technician for basketball games, timing track meets, photographing golf meets and announcing baseball games over a span of 3 years.
