For an updated digital story in Condé Nast Traveler, I’m looking to connect with travelers who have recently received the “SSSS” code on their airline boarding pass and were directed to enhanced airport screening or secondary security checks. I’m interested in hearing about a range of experiences, from minor inconveniences to more complicated situations — including travelers who: • Were surprised or confused by the SSSS designation • Had trouble checking in online or printing a boarding pass • Experienced delays, extra questioning, or additional bag searches • Received SSSS more than once, especially across multiple trips • Were flagged while traveling internationally or returning to the U.S. • Have TSA PreCheck, Global Entry, or another trusted traveler status but were still selected • Tried to find out why they were selected or what to do if it kept happening I’m also seeking knowledgeable sources who can help explain how SSSS works in practice, including aviation security experts, former TSA or CBP officials, airline or airport operations professionals, trusted traveler program experts, travel advisors, and others who have experience with secondary screening issues. I’m especially interested in clarifying: • Why travelers may be selected for SSSS • What factors may increase the likelihood of selection • Common myths vs. reality • Whether booking behavior, international routings, destinations, name issues, identity mismatches, or one-way/last-minute travel can play a role • Why travelers with TSA PreCheck or Global Entry may still be selected • What travelers can do if they receive SSSS repeatedly • How the process has changed in recent years Please respond with a brief summary of your experience or expertise, when and where the incident happened, what route you were flying if relevant, and whether you’re available for a short email interview.
