Former partner in Chatham Media Group LLC, owners of The Chatham News and The Chatham Record newspapers in Chatham County, North Carolina. The newspapers have been combined and re-branded as Chatham News + Record, but our legacy stretches back to 1878. My partners and I sold the newspaper in May 2023. In addition, I work as Digital Engagement Editor for Contract Solutions Inc., a Manassas, Virginia-based staffing firm named by INC. Magazine in 2017 and 2018 as one of the 5000 fastest-growing companies in the nation. My own company is WrittenUp, which offers customized writing, marketing, branding, presentation strategies and services for businesses, organizations and individuals. WrittenUp was created out of a need that local and regional businesses and organizations saw (and approached me for help) for creative, elevated communication. WrittenUp offers a range of services, including e-newsletters, video, web development, presentations, commercial scripting, retail consulting. I'm also a journalist and community leader with more than 30 years of experience in the newspaper industry. Retired in June 2016 as Publisher/Editor of The Sanford Herald in Sanford, North Carolina, which has been recognized as a "General Excellence" winner in the N.C. Press Association News & Editorial Contest in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2016. Past President of the N.C. Press Association, N.C. Press Services and member of the board of directors of the N.C. Press Foundation. Past director of the UNC School of Journalism & Mass Communications Foundation and the Central Carolina Community College Community Journalism Program.
