Claim your profileAs the American-Statesman's Opinion editor and columnist, I bring clarity to the challenges facing the Austin area. After two decades covering state and local government issues, I have a knack for explaining complex topics in an engaging way.I'm fascinated by how things work and what it takes to make them work better. I've earned top opinion-writing honors in Texas over the past five years, and in 2023 I was part of the American-Statesman team named a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Public Service for "unflinching coverage" of the failed response to the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. I've developed my leadership skills through programs at Cox Media Group and the Poynter Institute, and in 2020 I was selected for the leadership program 50 Women Can Change the World in Journalism.Outside the office I’m busy raising two of my favorite people in the entire world. I’m also a history buff, a home improvement maven, an aspiring photographer, a boot aficionado and a road trip queen.
