I'm writing a feature for CIO.com on what tech leaders want from a personal advisory board and how to build one. If you have built, maintained, and found a personal advisory network useful, I’d like to ask for tips and advice that other technology pros can use to do the same. I prefer to spend 15 to 20 minutes on a Zoom call, but I’m open to other ways of meeting and will consider written submissions. I'd like to ask: • Why and how did you create a personal board of advisors? • What did you hope this board would help you with? • With those goals in mind, how did you identify, recruit, and cultivate these relationships? • Has your board delivered what you hoped it would? Can you give an example? • How do you build trust? • Did you make mistakes along the way? • What advice would you give other CIOs about what to do and what not to do when building and maintaining an advisory board?
