Claim your profileI am an experienced and eager storyteller dedicated to fostering community through narrative. I'm committed to clean copy, deadlines, and creating change for the better. I am a staff reporter for The Boston Globe covering all things Rhode Island. Prior, I was a breaking news reporter for The Messenger, a national online news publication that launched in May 2023 and folded in January 2024. I covered everything from courts and crime in Colorado, Florida, and Massachusetts to the frantic search for the missing Titan submersible, lost during its plunge to the Titanic shipwreck. I wrote focusing on speed, brevity and accuracy and worked to scoop out exclusives for our site. Previously, I was a general assignment news reporter for Boston.com, where I frequently covered Boston City Hall, Massachusetts politics, and crime, and occasionally wrote about music and real estate. Some of my portfolio highlights include in-depth coverage of the 2021 mayoral and 2022 gubernatorial elections, a look into the evolving local news industry, and contributions to an award-winning 2019 series on the state's legal marijuana industry, a year after its launch. During my tenure, my work earned eight awards from the New England Newspaper and Press Association for business, history, weather, and human interest features, among other stories, between 2021 and 2023. Before joining Boston.com in 2018, I was a staff reporter for The Milford Daily News and a correspondent for The Boston Globe, where I covered breaking news in the city and the communities west of Boston. At the Daily News, my work included an inside look at a dispute between elected officials and the police chief regarding the latter's work contract, coverage of several major court cases, human interest features, and the steady stream of local news on a two-community beat. After one year, I was moved onto the flagship Milford beat and launched a Sunday column focusing on local and state politics. My passions include my guitars, Bruce Springsteen, and the future of local news. Email: cgavinjournalism@gmail.com | Twitter: @chris_m_gavin | Threads: @christopher_gavin
