Claim your profileI became a media critic first by way of an email that I'd send friends right out of college, updating them as to what I'd recently seen or read. I have a background in social services, which I'd like to think influences the tone and perspective of my writing. I'm a staff film and TV critic for Slant Magazine, who moonlights at other venues such as The Guardian, New York Magazine, The Atlantic, The AV Club, Fandor, and others. Locally, I've written for Richmond's Style Weekly, most memorably covering their French Film Festival as well as a "Twin Peaks" celebration. Particularly interested in socially conscious genre films. Have occasionally appeared on the radio to discuss my points of view, and have covered film fests such as Tribeca, New York Film Festival, and New Directors New Films.
