You pay more for your knives. Why not for handmade scissors? In media, got my start at FP as a freelancer in Vancouver. Moved with my family to Toronto for my first full-time job as a journalist in 1997. Covered markets, mining, economics. A year later, Conrad Black bought the FP and I joined the National Post for its historic launch. Became Investing editor, then editor of the full FP at the height of the newspaper war. I couldn’t imagine a better job in business journalism at the time. We were the clear leader. We have all been challenged to manage decline, but I think we have the opportunity to reinvent. That's why I am back at the FP. Believes we can always find a way to be better at telling people what they need to know in the way they want to consume it -- and back it with the right mix of subscription, sponsorship and advertising revenue. Together, focus and quality are the key ingredients.Played a leading role at many of the major brands in business journalism in Canada. Lately, that has involved a lot of digital transformation and driving new revenue streams. Advisor to startups. Won a lot of awards in journalism, for reporting, leading teams and titles, and for design. Led many writers and teams to National Newspaper and Magazine awards. Proud to have been able to make experienced talent even better and to launch raw interns into star careers. As the years go by, probably most proud at my record of attracting and shaping talent. You win, I win.
