Prior to that he wrote a weekly political column for Courier-Life Publications for which he was named "best political columnist" in New York by the Village Voice. From 1996 until 2000 he reported for daily newspapers in New Jersey and Pennsylvania, covering education, development and municipal government. A graduate of Yale University, Erik has won two National Headliner Awards and was the lead writer for two series that won the New Jersey Press Association's top public service award in consecutive years. He and his wife have twin sons, born in 2000.
