Claim your profileI'm known for quality, nuanced storytelling across themes of conflict, disaster, politics, culture, human identity, girl child rights, etc in mostly West and Central Africa. I started out as a music journalist for local Nigerian newspapers, writing reviews, profiles, and op-eds for the Sunday edition of ThisDay, one of the country's most-read dailies, for over four years. I still cover special music and culture stories for foreign media and have plans to venture into academics as a historian of music from West Africa & the Caribbean. My work (articles, photographs, album liner notes, etc) has been published in The Guardian, Washington Post, The Atlantic, Al-Jazeera, New York Times, Reuters, Financial Times, Apple Music, Times of London, Forbes Africa, Telegraph, Mail & Guardian, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, etc. I have reported from the Peruvian Amazon, Djibouti, Guinea, Ghana, Cote d'Ivoire, Senegal, Cameroon, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Benin, Niger, and Nigeria (northeast, northwest, southeast, Niger Delta, Middle Belt). For all of February 2017, I was visiting lecturer and researcher at Malmo University, Sweden; I have also delivered lectures at universities in Copenhagen, Växjö, and New York.
