I've been a book critic and video game columnist for NPR, a restaurant critic in four different cities, written about dentists, chefs, entrepreneurs, authors and, one time, a hippopotamus. In my spare time, I pick fights over the use of the Oxford comma. After dark, I'm a novelist. Been trying to make giant robots and ray guns respectable since 2013. I am the author of the middle-grade novel CHILDREN OF THE FLYING CITY (out 3/15 from Dutton Young Readers), a memoir called COOKING DIRTY: A STORY OF LIFE, SEX, LOVE AND DEATH IN THE KITCHEN, and two science fiction novels for grown-ups: TALES FROM THE RADIATION AGE and A PRIVATE LITTLE WAR.
