Claim your profileJeff Kleinman is the Consumer Team Editor for the Miami Herald, overseeing coverage of health, shopping, tourism, real estate, fraud/scams/recalls. Kleinman was born and grew up in Miami Beach, and started at the Miami News and at the Miami Herald as a college reporting intern. He went on to cover local government, transportation, the city of Miami, crime, the Florida Keys and Palm Beach County as a staff reporter before becoming a Herald editor. He was a metro assignment editor and then managed the night editing/design team for 10 years before becoming day editor in 2011. Kleinman has helped edit many of the major and award-winning stories of the past two decades, including coverage of the Surfside condo collapse, Hurricane Andrew, 9/11, Miami's financial crisis, the Pulse nightclub tragedy and the Parkland school shooting. Kleinman founded the Miami Herald’s real-time team, which rolled out in 2017 during coverage of Hurricane Irma. He also oversaw coverage of the Florida Keys. As a longtime leader in the newsroom, he helps manage and train the newsroom's college interns, and serves as a judge for the Silver Knight Awards. He was a member of the Miami Herald's digital innovation team working with the Knight-Temple project, has led multimedia panels across the state for FSNE, and has taught classes and workshops at Florida international University, Florida Gulf Coast University and the University of Miami. He now serves on the Leadership Council of FIU’s Kopenhaver Center for the Advancement of Women in Communication. Kleinman lives in Hollywood with his wife, Beth, a science and writing teacher, and has two daughters.
