Claim your profileI am a health reporter for the Guardian US whose work examines the intersection of medicine, business, policy and politics. I balance daily news, features and enterprise assignments on a high-profile beat. My stories synthesize scientific studies, expert interviews, legal documents, government records, the lived experience of communities and even sensitive patient records to paint a picture of how our health system works. I led the newsroom through the fall of Roe v. Wade and the Covid-19 pandemic, and have reported extensively on reproductive rights. My most recent investigative work examined how a highly consolidated hospital system held medical debt against patients' homes. More investigations revealed how a wealthy, anti-abortion billionaire funded a fertility tracking phone app and how child labor is an open secret in North Carolina's tobacco fields. I regularly appear on radio programs to promote the Guardian's work, including guest host appearances. I was co-hosted and co-produced on an hour-long radio documentary with WNYC’s On the Media. The documentary won an Honorable Mention at the Gracie Awards. I began my career as a crime reporter at the Register Citizen in Torrington, Connecticut – a tiny newspaper where my work became the basis of a federal anti-discrimination lawsuit. I am from Florida originally, and have an abiding love of roller skating.
