Claim your profileI am the editorial director for Votebeat, a non-profit newsroom covering voting rights, election administration and redistricting. I manage our projects, features and investigations in all five of our coverage states: Arizona, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Texas and Wisconsin. I was formerly the lead reporter and the spokesperson for ProPublica's Electionland project, a collaborative project with journalists across the country covering access to the ballot in real time on Election Day. I'm interested in boosting local journalism, making collaboration between newsrooms work and helping new reporters realize their potential. I also own and operate The Friendly State News, which provides affordable training in public records, investigative skills and entry-level data journalism for small newsrooms and freelance reporters.
