While there, I conducted man-on-the-street interviews in both English and Spanish, covered community board meetings and press conferences, wrote profiles on political candidates, and highlighted graffiti artists in the community. I was the first journalist to write an in-depth profile on Bronx Deputy Borough President Janet Peguero.https://www.norwoodnews.org/deputy-bronx-bp-janet-a-peguero-embodies-spirit-of-dominican-heritage-month/During my time at the University of Missouri, I was awarded the 2021 Don Romero Prize for outstanding magazine writing. One of the judges commented, "Nazar's mastery of a direct, explanatory style is impressive." My stories ranged from a profile of a political candidate running for 13th Circuit Court Division IV judge to a scientific breakthrough made by an MU professor on physical inactivity genes. I also mastered the Q&A story format. I interviewed nationally acclaimed standup comedian Greg Warren as well as former MU football coach Gary Pinkel.I received a scholarship to play soccer at Soka University of America for four years.
