I knew that this was an industry where voices like mine were getting their stories told from an outside perspective: a perspective where some people just create work because the story was popular and prominent and not because they actually care or can relate to the experience. After learning that I could combine my passions of community, art, and intellectual conversation to promote change, I decided to change the narrative. I began to create works that have focused on struggles, stereotypes, and prejudices that my community has faced on a daily basis, while also celebrating Black excellence and culture.
