I’m working on a feature for Packaging Impressions examining how packaging and label converters are using cross-training between office teams and plant-floor operations to improve alignment and operational performance. The concept—sometimes described as “carpet to cement and cement to carpet,” refers to greater collaboration between commercial roles, such as sales, estimating, and customer service—and production teams in the pressroom and finishing departments. The article will explore how this type of cross-functional training is helping companies address challenges such as shorter run lengths, more complex packaging requirements, tighter labor markets, and the need for stronger coordination between quoting, scheduling, and production. All help appreciated
