Claim your profileLaurie Niles founded Violinist.com in 1996, and since then the website has proven that the Internet can draw together people from all over the world who love classical music, and that it can inflame their passion for it. The site, which includes news and technique blogs, discussion and directories, attracts more than 200,000 absolute unique visitors each month. Laurie has also published two books: Violinist.com Interviews, Volumes 1 and 2. Each volume contains about 30 interviews, representing Violinist.com's best interviews of today's leading violinists, with forewords by Hilary Hahn and Rachel Barton Pine. In addition to her Violinist.com blog, she has also written articles for The Strad magazine, Strings magazine, Symphony magazine and the American Suzuki Journal. Laurie lives in Pasadena, Calif., where she also maintains a private violin studio and free-lances in Los Angeles. She has played in the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Pasadena, Long Beach, New West, and Redlands Symphonies, as well as the Colorado Springs and Omaha Symphonies. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Northwestern University, where she studied with Gerardo Ribeiro, and a Master of Arts degree in Journalism from Indiana University, where she also studied violin with Henryk Kowalski. Growing up in Denver, Colorado, she studied violin with James Maurer and Harold Wippler. She is a registered teacher with the Suzuki Association of the Americas, having trained in Suzuki Books 1-10 with James Maurer at the University of Denver, and with Mark Bjork, Helen Brunner, Ellie LeRoux and Enid Cleary at the Colorado Suzuki Institute.
