Hello pet people! I’m seeking insights from a veterinarian on how long a dog can go without eating. Our readers want to know when they need to contact their vet—at what point is this an emergency? I’d love to hear from a veterinarian on the following points: 1. How long can a dog safely go without eating? 2. What are some normal, safe reasons a dog might choose to skip a meal? (For example: hot weather, nervousness, upset stomach, being a picky eater, etc.) 3. What are some more serious, concerning reasons a dog might choose to skip a meal? 4. What are some signs to look for in conjunction with a dog not eating that mean it’s time to go to the vet right away? 5. How can a vet help determine why a dog isn’t eating? What diagnostic methods do they use, and what types of treatments can they provide?

I’d love to hear from a veterinarian or trainer on the following points: 1. What are the most important qualities to look for in a boarding facility or in-home boarding situation when you’re boarding a large-breed dog? 2. What concerns are specific to large-breed dogs when you’re boarding? 3. When might in-home boarding be preferable to a larger boarding facility? 4. What kind of questions are important to ask a provider caring for your large-breed dog while you’re away? Thank you for considering!
