Claim your profileI've been in daily journalism since April, 1980 when I joined the Macon Telegraph as a general assignment reporter. In July, 1981, I joined the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, where I spent 27 wonderful years. For all but one of those years, I worked in the Business News Department, first as a reporter and then as a columnist. My business column started in January, 1991; and in 1997, I also began writing an urban growth and development column that appeared in the Metro section. The AJC offered longtime employees a buyout offer, and my last day was on Aug. 30, 2008. Since then, I have been exploring other opportunities in journalism. I became a regular contributing writer for the Atlanta Business Chronicle in September 2008 until March 2020. In February 2009, I launched SaportaReport, a regional online news outlet with several veteran reporters and contributors. Also, I've been developing a journalism nonprofit - Atlanta Civic Circle - with several strong community leaders. SaportaReport and the Atlanta Civc Circle are serving as sister organizations.Specialties: business news, urban affairs, leadership, growth and development; and everything Atlanta
