Claim your profileMonique Vanek has worked in financial media for over 20 years during which time her career has spanned radio, TV, print, public relations and digital media. She has spent a vast portion of her career mentoring and training journalists that would become award-winning. Monique is Africa economics and government editor at Bloomberg. Before that she was CNBC Africa and CNBCAfrica.com’s news editor. She previously co-produced Tonight with Bruce Whitfield, which in 2015 won the Multimedia Financial Journalist of the Year category at the Sanlam Awards for Excellence in Financial Journalism.Monique has also been involved in event organisation at CNBC Africa, including CNBC Africa’s launch at the JSE in 2015, Exclusive Insights with Pravin Gordhan and Lesteja Kganyago. She has also been the executive producer on several outside broadcasts such as WEF Africa 2015, Cape Town and WEF Davos 2017.Monique began her career as an intern at Moneyweb in 2003 before making the move to editor in 2007 during which time she grew a reputation for producing award-winning journalists and co-founded MoneywebTax. In addition to Moneyweb she has worked with Radio Today, Different Angles, the SABC and The Citizen before moving into public relations where she consulted to corporates on social media, spent time copy writing, editing, writing press releases and narrowing the divide between digital and traditional public relations.Monique has a Masters in Development Studies from Wits University, and an honours in Political Studies Cum Laude. She also has a Postgraduate Diploma in Management from Wits Business School and completed Media Bistro’s social media marketing boot camp.
