He covered the Indiana Pacers for The Indianapolis Star, Florida Atlantic University’s athletics for The South Florida Sun-Sentinel and was a features writer for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.In 2012, Nate joined The New York Times' apprenticeship program for young journalists. He was the New York Knicks beat writer during the 2012-2013 season. Nate also covered national sporting events, including the NBA Finals, the Jerry Sandusky trial and the US Tennis Open. Prior to his work at The Times, Nate spent two years at The Raleigh News & Observer as a high school sports and backup ACC reporter. He completed internships at The Boston Globe, The Minneapolis Star Tribune and The Quad-City Times. His work has also appeared in The Kansas City Star and MLB.com. He is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists, The New York Times Student Journalism Institute and the Sports Journalism Institute. Born and raised in Kansas City, Mo., Nate graduated from the University of Central Missouri with a bachelor’s degree in journalism. He is an avid reader and loves eating barbecue. Nate is happily married to Holly and they have a son named Hayden.
