He previously worked for some of the top news outlets in the world including Reuters, Bloomberg, and Quartz. He holds a Master's degree in Business and Economics Journalism from Columbia University, where he completed the prestigious Knight-Bagehot Fellowship in 2022. Omar has interviewed CEOs, policymakers, and athletes, and has covered major events such as the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, presidential campaigns, the economic impact of Covid in East Africa and his work with colleagues at Reuters earned a nomination at the Deadline Club Awards, where he was a finalist in 2019. His sports reporting was longlisted for The International Sports Press Association Media Awards in 2023. He is fluent in English and Kiswahili.
