Progressive Railroading also is active in social media, particularly Twitter, Facebook and a LinkedIn group. In addition, Progressive Railroading produces RailTrends , an annual two-day summit; and starting in 2015, Secure Rail, also a two-day conference.Be it in print or online, we aim to put a range of freight and passenger rail industry issues and trends — from new-business development to business-process change to the technology evolution — into clear, concise and current context for 25,000 North American railroad executives and managers.I joined the magazine — which is owned by Milwaukee-based Trade Press Media Group — as managing editor in late 1996 and was named editor in 1998.Before that, I helped launch FacilitiesNet (www.facilitiesnet.com), another Trade Press information delivery vehicle, from mid-1995 through late 1996 (my title: something called "interactive editor"). This marked the beginning of my second stint with Trade Press. From early 1988 through mid-1995, I served as a reporter and editor for The Business Journal Serving Greater Milwaukee, a weekly regional business newspaper, where I covered a variety of industries and local business issues. Before that, I was an assistant editor for Building Operating Management (audience: facility management professionals), which is published by Trade Press. I was there for about three years (early 1985 thru early 1988).And: For three summers (1982, 1983 & 1984) and from fall 1984 through early 1985, I served as assistant to the public relations coordinator at Milwaukee World Festival Inc. (aka Summerfest, "the world's largest music festival")
