I am Head of Fossil Fuel Investigations with Global Witness. I help our brilliant team of investigators use data-driven insights to help the media tell better, more impactful climate stories and expose the industry's narrative capture among policymakers.I previously spent nearly a decade with AFP covering climate and geopolitics, delivering a string of world exclusive investigations including into fossil fuel lobbying of UN climate talks, the threat of industry litigation, and international species smuggling. I helped oversee the agency's transition towards prioritising The Future of the Planet in its editorial strategy, working with internal and external stakeholders to leverage the organisation's global reach to bring clear, informative and engaging climate stories for audiences around the world.Before AFP I led investigations into Egypt's crackdown on atheists; its detention of military conscientious objectors; fomenting coup in Egyptian army; Salafist militant activity in Lebanon; organ trafficking in the Sinai peninsula; the global blood diamond trade; the UN-backed international tribunal into the assassination of Lebanon's former prime minister; ET409 plane crash, among others. Investigated the US's covert drone war in Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia, as well as the deprivation of citizenship of terror suspects. I was among the first journalists to the scene of the Port Said football disaster, the crackdown on protests in Tal Kalakh, Syria, and the armed clashes in Beirut in 2012. Humanitarian and development work includes dispatches on mine and cluster bomb clearance in south Lebanon; the Syria conflict; Palestinian refugees; gender rights in Lebanon and Egypt. Extensive contact book including international policymakers, diplomats, charity organisations and UN staff. Experience in translation (Arabic and French to English), copy, image and video editing, social media strategy and public relations. Deep knowledge of Middle East and North Africa developments and global news trends in general. Before my industry experience, I graduated with a Masters Degree in Journalism from City University and a Masters Degree in English from the University of Cambridge. Prior to this, I helped to co-found and run a nationally-recognised digital media company, training in audio and video editing and broadcast production.
