Claim your profileI currently cover New York City public schools for Chalkbeat, a non-profit news organization dedicated to covering education in America. Previously, I covered Virginia state politics for the Daily Press. In three years there, by covering a county, a city and the state, I learned the ins and outs of government and was involved in two investigations. Before that, I was a breaking news reporter for the Chicago Sun-Times and its wire service, covering crime as city homicides skyrocketed and took national attention. While in Chicago, I covered education and politics for AustinTalks.org, focusing on issues that affected the city's largest neighborhood. I've written about crime, public housing, education, economic development, city budgets, labor and unemployment. I quickly learned that there is something to be fascinated about in every beat, and there's always a human that's affected by each story we write. I'm constantly looking for ways to become a better storyteller -- through a narrative and multimedia packages.
