Formerly executive editor of Richmond Magazine, Foster was founding editor of Richmond.com and previously worked as a staff writer for Style Weekly magazine, The Roanoke Times and the Richmond Times-Dispatch. He also was a public affairs manager and legislative liaison for a state government agency. His first book, “The Real Bettie Page,” was adapted into the 2006 HBO Films movie “The Notorious Bettie Page,” starring Gretchen Mol. In 2018, Foster hosted and produced the hit true-crime podcast “Southern Nightmare,” which ranked in the iTunes Top 100 U.S. Podcasts chart. Later adapted into a book by Foster, "Southern Nightmare" recounts the story of Richmond’s South Side Strangler serial killer, the first murderer in U.S. history brought to justice via DNA evidence.
