Claim your profileI’m the founding executive editor of Heatmap News, a new media company focused on energy, climate change and decarbonization. I’m also a contributing Opinion writer at The New York Times. In 2023, I was named to Vox’s ‘Future Perfect 50,’ a list of “the thinkers, activists, and scholars working on solutions to today’s (and tomorrow’s) biggest problems.” I was previously a staff writer at The Atlantic, where I covered climate change, science, and technology. I helped start Planet, The Atlantic’s climate section, and I was the founding writer of its weekly climate newsletter, The Weekly Planet. In March 2020, I co-founded the COVID Tracking Project at The Atlantic, an award-winning volunteer effort that collected coronavirus data from every U.S. state and territory. Our data was used by two presidential administrations, cited in more than 1,000 academic papers, and quoted in at least 11 letters from members of Congress demanding answers on the pandemic response from government agencies or commercial labs.
