Claim your profileI cover public safety for The Oaklandside, an independent nonprofit newsroom serving Oakland, California. I’ve written stories about community violence prevention and intervention programs, law enforcement accountability, police technologies, and how people and institutions of power impact Oakland residents. I’m passionate about telling stories that add nuance and complexity to mainstream narratives and investigate systems, not just symptoms. Most recently, I was a Poynter-Koch Media & Journalism Fellow covering small businesses for The Oaklandside. I’ve also written for The Associated Press, NBC Bay Area, USAFacts, KSBY News, and other news outlets. I graduated from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and minors in Spanish, ethnic studies, and women’s & gender studies. I am also an administrative assistant for Scarlet Tanager Books, an Oakland-based publishing press that supports emerging and underrepresented voices in literature.
