I am an Emmy Award-winning and Murrow Award-winning senior news producer at WRAL, with more than 20 years of experience in the industry. I am passionate about telling stories in new ways using words and data, and teaching others to do the same. I have a master's degree in mass communication from UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media, and coursework in data analysis and visualization from Coursera.As a senior news producer, I teach new producers to manage the entire newscast, from the overall image to the spelling of every word on the screen. I also coordinate the efforts of approximately 30 people across the day to achieve the finished project. I have a talent for eyeing the big picture view, while maintaining detail on the micro level. I am responsible for finding innovative methods and presentations to accompany strong storytelling techniques, and for providing greater context and graphic support for the content of my newscast. I also handle special projects and breaking news. I have won several regional awards for my work, including Emmys and Murrows, for interactive, breaking news, and weekend newscast categories.In addition to my production skills, I am also a skilled writer and writing coach, with experience in both freelance and digital media. I enjoy transmitting breaking news situations and building a community of engaged and informed audiences.
