Claim your profileWendy Thompson is the CEO and owner of the DC Spotlight Newspaper. The newspaper covers news, politics, sports, social issues and entertainment in the Washington, DC metro area. She is the author of the children's book "Sweetie Don't Eat That" and the children's book series "Wendy the Wonder Kid" from 2025. She hosted -- at the WXXV FOX affiliate -- the television show, "Mississippi's Journal" and at the local FOX station, the radio show "Mother-to-Mother" in Washington, DC. She has worked at several broadcasting outlets (NPR, PBS, WB/CW, FOX, BET, WTOP News) as producers, writers and techs. For 3 years, she was a director on the board of the Mattie Stepanek Foundation, dedicated to the work of the young peace poet Mattie Stepanek, made famous by the Oprah Winfrey Show. She was instrumental and credited with obtaining The Mattie Stepanek Day in the state of Maryland. She has interviewed thought-leaders, politicians, gamechangers, and celebrities such as Simone Biles, John Lewis, Dan Rather, Tim Shriver, Iyanla Vanzant, Gloria Steinem, JB Smoove, Eleanor Holmes Norton, and Ted Leonsis. Specialties: She has over 20 years of experience as a newspaper editor, events coordinator and executive producer of both television and radio programs. She was the chief executive officer of her philanthropic organization, SEC, Inc., which benefited children's charities, the homeless and other educational charities that assist adults who return to college. I currently champion financially and through support homeless kids and homeless shelters in the DC metro area, Maui, and throughout the U.S.
